Crash on Black Forest Route: Police to Step Up Checks After B500 Motorcycle Collision

The police response to the latest deadly crash on the Black Forest High Road will focus on motorcycle riders. Additional checks will take place on coming weekends along the B500 and other routes popular with motorcyclists, the Offenburg police headquarters announced.

An 18-year-old motorcyclist and a 41-year-old motorcyclist died Sunday in a collision near Bühl, in the Rastatt district. The Black Forest High Road is known for its panoramic views and winding bends, making it one of Germany’s most famous and popular motorcycle routes.

The roughly 65-kilometre road runs between Baden-Baden and Freudenstadt in the northern Black Forest. It is also among the roads with the highest number of crashes in the state. Police identify excessive speed as the most common cause.

The police authority said 33 people have died on roads in its area this year through the end of last month, including 12 motorcyclists. The previous year recorded 28 road deaths across the entire year.
