Cremona Devastated by Storms; President Mattarella Offers Support

Cremona lies in ruins after a powerful tornado and hailstorm struck the city, causing immense damage. Thousands of trees were uprooted, roofs were torn off, and an estimated 10,000 vehicles sustained damage. The storm left 43 people injured, though most did not suffer serious consequences and were discharged from care. Twelve families were forced to evacuate their homes after a residential building was declared uninhabitable.

Even the city's landmarks were affected. The Cathedral and the Torrazzo tower sustained damage, though they remained open to the public. The Cathedral's north facade saw the top of a turret collapse, and the rose window on the main facade was also damaged. At least ten churches in Cremona reported significant damage.

President Sergio Mattarella called Mayor Andrea Virgilio to express his closeness to the community. Heavy rains and hail also hit the Milanese and Brianza areas, with hailstones described as "tennis balls" in Brescia. The former Minister of Tourism, Daniela Santanchè, has pledged support for the city's rapid recovery, while the Democratic Party urged the government to act immediately with necessary resources.
