Crime dramas and Korean fantasy: What to watch mid-July

Mid-July promises a diverse lineup of new series for global audiences, spanning genres from crime and fantasy to sports and animation. Streaming platforms and television channels are set to launch five anticipated multi-episode projects between July 13 and July 19.

Among the crime offerings is "Lucky," premiering July 15. The series follows Lucky Armstrong, a charismatic con artist who, after a daring heist, buys a winning lottery ticket. Her attempt to start an honest life is complicated by the FBI's awareness of her identity, forcing her to use her old skills to claim the prize without being arrested.

Fantasy enthusiasts can look forward to "East Palace," debuting July 17. Set in a fictional historical kingdom, the series centers on the mysterious death of the crown prince. The king secretly enlists a demon hunter, Gu Cheon, and a maid, Sung-gan, who can hear the voices of the dead, to uncover the source of evil within the palace.

Sports and animation fans are also catered for. "Hawk," a sports comedy premiering July 16, explores the journey of a professional golfer who becomes the face of an ambitious new league challenging the established golf regulator. Meanwhile, "Spidey and His Amazing Friends," the fifth season of a preschool animated series, returns July 13, with Peter Parker teaming up with Ghost-Spider Gwen and Miles Morales to face a threat too big for him alone.

Rounding out the releases is the third season of the documentary series "Quarterback," arriving July 14. This season focuses on four NFL players navigating pivotal moments in their careers, including Jaden Daniels of the Washington Commanders as he aims to build on his successful rookie season.
