Criminal suspect arrested while fleeing to India with image of Aadhaar card on phone

Authorities have arrested Mobarak Hossain, also known as David Emon, a high-ranking member of a criminal network, as he attempted to cross into India. Emon, considered the second-in-command to fugitive gangster Sazzad Ali, also known as Boro Sazzad, was apprehended with three associates near the Jashore border.

During the investigation, police discovered an image of an Indian Aadhaar card on Emon's mobile phone. Investigators believe the card, bearing the name Azhar Khan, was sent to Emon by Boro Sazzad to aid his planned escape and integration into India. Police have not recovered a physical card and could not confirm if the image depicted a genuine or forged document.

Boro Sazzad sent an image of the Aadhaar card to Emon's mobile phone. We did not recover the physical card from him, but we found its image on his phone. The plan was to hand over the Aadhaar card to him once he crossed into India.

Emon is a suspect in 15 criminal cases filed in the Chattogram city and district. His arrest followed an investigation into the shooting of Jubo Dal leader Masudul Haque Chowdhury on June 13. Information obtained from another arrested suspect, Md Elias alias Dhama Elias, provided crucial leads on Emon and his involvement in the criminal network, as well as an extortion case targeting Digital Dot Net.

Following Emon's arrest, police conducted raids in Fatikchhari, recovering a foreign-made pistol, two locally made firearms, and several other weapons. Police stated they have found no evidence linking any political figures to Emon's alleged criminal activities. The group reportedly exploited a period of reduced law enforcement activity to carry out their crimes.

During the investigation, we identified everyone directly and indirectly involved. On July 22, we arrested one of the FIR-named accused in the murder case, Md Elias alias Dhama Elias, from Dhaka. His interrogation provided us with significant information about the criminal network and a crucial lead on Emon.
