Crisis: Ondo APC elders eye Tinubu’s help

Elders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ondo State are calling on President Bola Tinubu to step in and mediate the ongoing political disputes within the state chapter of the party. The group, operating under the banner of Agba Imole Renewed Hope Agenda, expressed concern that the internal cold war could jeopardize the party's performance in the 2027 presidential election.

Aderemi Adebiyi, the group's coordinator for the South-West, emphasized the urgency of President Tinubu's intervention. He stated that such intervention is vital not only for securing sufficient votes in the state for the President's re-election bid but also for safeguarding democratic governance and bolstering public confidence in the administration's "Renewed Hope Agenda." Adebiyi clarified that the group's appeal stems from genuine concern for the state's unity and stability, rather than personal interests.

He urged the President to leverage his extensive experience and statesmanship to prevent divisions, expose hypocrisy, restore confidence among party members in Ondo State, and ensure the "Renewed Hope Agenda" is not undermined. The elders stressed that remaining silent would be tantamount to complicity in the unfolding crisis.

In addition to appealing to the President, Adebiyi called upon the state governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, to implement immediate corrective actions. These include fostering more inclusive governance through broader consultations, initiating genuine reconciliation with aggrieved APC stakeholders, and conducting a thorough review of the conduct of all political appointees. The elders believe these steps are necessary to mend internal rifts and strengthen the party's foundation in the state.

We urge him to once again deploy his vast experience, political sagacity, and statesmanship to prevent unnecessary division, eliminate hypocrisy and deception wherever they exist, restore confidence among party members in Ondo State, and ensure that the ideals of the Renewed Hope Agenda are not undermined in the state.
