Andrés Mieles lost his family and a limb following two powerful earthquakes that struck Venezuela's coast on June 24, 2026. The magnitude 7.2 and 7.5 tremors, occurring just 39 seconds apart, caused significant destruction, with official figures confirming 2,954 deaths and 16,592 injuries as of July 4.

During Portugal's participation in the 2026 World Cup, Ronaldo recorded a video message for Mieles, whom he described as a "super fan." In the heartfelt clip, shared by influencer Armando Poyo, the footballer wished the boy a speedy recovery and extended an offer: "When you get better, I want to invite you to watch one of my games and enjoy, okay? I would love to meet you. A hug, friend."

The video was shown to Mieles at his hospital, where he watched with tears while being encouraged by staff.
