Croatia Braces for Dangerous Heatwave: Red Alerts Issued Nationwide

Croatia is facing a severe heatwave, with temperatures set to climb significantly from Tuesday onwards. The national meteorological service has issued numerous warnings, placing almost the entire country under a red alert by Thursday. Major cities including Osijek, Zagreb, Karlovac, Gospić, Knin, Rijeka, Split, and Dubrovnik will be affected by the highest level of warning.

While sunny conditions will dominate, there is a possibility of localized afternoon showers in inland Croatia and Dalmatia, particularly on Thursday. Winds will generally be light, but a moderate southeast wind may occur in the east, and a southwest wind along the coast. Nighttime temperatures will also remain high, offering little relief from the daytime heat.

The extreme temperatures have already had a noticeable impact on daily life. Reports indicate that streets in Zagreb have become deserted due to the unbearable heat, with visuals capturing the unusual emptiness. The public is advised to take necessary precautions as the heatwave intensifies.
