Croatia braces for stormy Tuesday with nationwide thunderstorm warning

Croatia is bracing for a turbulent Tuesday as a yellow warning for thunderstorms has been issued for the entire country. Meteorologists predict variable weather conditions, with rain, showers, and the possibility of heavy thunderstorms expected in various parts of the nation.

The Croatian Meteorological and Hydrological Service (DHMZ) forecasts that while eastern regions like Slavonia, Baranja, and Srijem, along with the far south, may see more sunshine, central and western areas will experience increasing cloud cover and precipitation throughout the day. The east could see localized, intense downpours in the afternoon, accompanied by a shift in wind direction from southeast to north.

In central Croatia, clouds and rain are expected to arrive around midday, with potential for heavy showers and thunder. Winds will generally be light but could strengthen during downpours. The western part of the country anticipates variable cloudiness with intermittent rain. Moderate to strong southerly winds are expected to turn northwestward by evening, with storm gusts potentially reaching dangerous levels.

Coastal areas, particularly in Dalmatia, might experience thunderstorms, especially in the northern parts, despite generally partly sunny conditions. Temperatures are expected to range from 13-18°C in the morning inland to 22-24°C along the coast, with daytime highs reaching up to 32°C in some areas. The weather is forecast to calm down by the end of the day, with clearer skies expected from Wednesday onwards, leading to warmer temperatures by Friday.
