Croatia Issues Orange Weather Alerts for Three Regions Amid Storm, Hail, and Heavy Rain Forecast

Croatia's State Hydrometeorological Institute (DHMZ) has issued orange weather alerts for the Rijeka, Knin, and Split regions, warning of severe thunderstorms, hail, and heavy rainfall. A yellow meteorological alarm is in effect for most of the country. Meteorologist Krunoslav Mikec explained that a Mediterranean cyclone is moving from Italy towards the Adriatic Sea, bringing unstable air and increasing the likelihood of frequent showers and thunderstorms. Localized, more intense storms are also possible. The Rijeka area faces the highest risk, with the orange alert active from morning until the end of the day. Warnings include potential wind gusts exceeding 65 kilometers per hour, hail, and rainfall between 40 and 70 millimeters, which could lead to flash floods and significant material damage. Similar conditions are forecast for the Knin and Split regions, with alerts starting at 1 p.m. and 2 p.m. respectively. The northern Adriatic may see initial showers in the morning, particularly in Istria, with another wave of instability expected in the evening. Inland areas will experience afternoon showers, while eastern Croatia could still see temperatures between 30 and 33 degrees Celsius. Southern Dalmatia might experience local storms with heavy rain and strong winds in the afternoon. The far south of the country is expected to be sunny in the morning, with a rising chance of thunderstorms later. Additionally, yellow alerts are in place for strong to stormy southerly winds along most of the Adriatic coast, with gusts between 65 and 75 km/h, leading to rough seas potentially hazardous to smaller vessels. Unstable weather is expected to continue through Monday, with gradual stabilization and rising temperatures anticipated from Tuesday, possibly reaching over 30 degrees Celsius by mid-week.
