Croatia: Trio charged with attempted murder of teen; woman investigated for stabbing

Two separate violent incidents have resulted in serious charges and ongoing investigations in Croatia. In Rijeka, prosecutors have indicted three men, aged 29, 34, and 26, for attempted murder and inflicting severe injuries on a 16-year-old. The indictment alleges the trio attacked the teenager in February 2026, intending to kill him. They reportedly beat him multiple times, causing injuries that, according to prosecutors, were only not fatal by sheer luck. The group also faces charges for assaulting another person, who was allegedly beaten while on the ground and sustained minor injuries.

Two of the accused are in pretrial detention due to the risk of flight and recidivism, while the third is held for the danger of re-offending. The case gained public attention after a video of the brutal beating of the 16-year-old surfaced online, prompting police to initiate a search for the perpetrators.

Meanwhile, in the Zadar region, the State Attorney's Office has launched an investigation into a 58-year-old woman suspected of attempted aggravated assault. She is accused of stabbing a victim in July after a verbal altercation, while she was intoxicated. The victim sustained minor injuries. The woman has been placed in pretrial detention due to the risk of re-offending. The relationship between the suspect and the victim has not been disclosed.
