Croatian Basketball Finals: Zadar and Cibona Head to Decisive Game 5

The Croatian basketball championship finals between Cibona and Zadar are heading to a winner-take-all Game 5 after the series was deadlocked at 2-2. Cibona, a team with 20 national titles, faces Zadar, who have won six, including the last three consecutively under coach Danijel Jusup.

Jusup has built a system that has brought consistent success to Zadar, and another title this season is crucial for his continued employment. The series has been a dramatic back-and-forth. Cibona initially took a 1-0 lead with a road win, but Zadar responded with a dominant performance in Game 2, winning by 35 points. Zadar continued their strong showing in Game 3, securing another comfortable victory.

However, Cibona proved resilient, forcing a decisive Game 5. This scenario mirrors the 2022 finals when Cibona, also against Zadar, clinched the title. That victory occurred on Cibona's home court, and only captain Radovčić remains from that championship team.

Zadar's fans, the Tornado, are expected to pack the Dvorana Krešimira Ćosića in Zadar for Wednesday's decisive game. Despite being favored, Zadar failed to close out the series in Game 4, a performance that disappointed many, including some of their own supporters who were present in Zagreb.

Cibona's coach Ivan Rudež highlighted the team's fighting spirit and the return of enthusiastic fans to their home arena. "This victory is dedicated to our fans because after many years, one could see a queue for tickets," Rudež stated, emphasizing the positive atmosphere surrounding the team's unexpected success in reaching the finals.
