Croatian Clubs Poised for European Advancement

Croatian football clubs are in strong positions heading into the second leg of their European competition second qualifying rounds, following a successful first week with no losses. Dinamo Zagreb secured a 1-1 away draw against Swiss champions Thun and is favored to progress.

The conditions were certainly atypical and surely made it difficult for Dinamo. It was evident from the start that Dinamo was the better team. It wasn't spectacular in the first half, but the second half was much better. I believe Luka Stojković was greatly missed and will be a big plus for Dinamo when he plays. Dinamo is truly a much better team than Thun, and I have no doubts about Maksimir. I expect Dinamo to advance confidently. There is no fear.

Hajduk holds a 2-0 lead against Pafos from Cyprus in the Europa League. Meanwhile, in the Conference League, Rijeka carries a narrow 1-0 advantage against Derry City of Ireland, and Varaždin has a slim 3-2 lead over Jablonec from the Czech Republic.

Former Croatian international Daniel Šarić expressed optimism about the Croatian teams' prospects. He believes Dinamo is significantly stronger than Thun and anticipates a confident win at home. Šarić also commented on Dinamo's transfer window, noting Mislav Oršić's return as a key reinforcement and addressing the goalkeeping situation, suggesting the club has sufficient options even if Dominik Livaković does not return.

Last year, huge changes occurred in both club structures and personnel, so it's normal for this transfer window to be a bit calmer. Oršić is a great reinforcement. It would be best for Dinamo if Livaković returns, but if not, Dinamo has many goalkeepers; there are Nevistić, Zagorac, and Filipović, so I don't think the club will look for another goalkeeper in that case.

Regarding Hajduk, Šarić acknowledged the strong 2-0 victory but found the fans' whistling towards coach Gonzalo García for benching Marko Livaja to be unfair, despite Livaja's iconic status. He emphasized that the team's victory should be the priority. Šarić expects Dinamo to dominate the domestic league and hopes for a Champions League qualification, though he would also be satisfied with a Europa League spot.
