Croatian defender returns to Portugal as Vitoria presents him with a special shirt

Toni Borevković has returned to Portuguese top-flight club Vitoria Guimaraes from Turkish side Samsunspor, signing a one-year contract. The club president welcomed the 29-year-old Croatian defender with a special shirt bearing the number 100, marking his previous appearances for Vitoria.

Borevković had already played for the club from the summer of 2021 and spent one season on loan at Hajduk. He did not play in Vitoria’s 0-0 home draw with Casa Pia on Sunday.

Casa Pia’s point owed much to 23-year-old Croatian goalkeeper Ivan Mandić. He joined the club from Vukovar in the summer of 2025 but had not previously been given a chance in goal. Mandić came on in the 29th minute and made several excellent saves. Sports newspaper A Bola called him “the best player on the field.” The draw gave bottom-placed Casa Pia its first point after five rounds. Vitoria is 12th in the league, and Croatian forward Arnel Jakupović, signed from Osijek last week, entered in the 63rd minute.

Elsewhere, Porto did not register 22-year-old Croatian defender Dominik Prpić for Champions League matches. Prpić joined the club a year ago from Hajduk and has made 12 appearances, but spent the first five league matches of this season on the bench.

Porto B’s 23-year-old Croatian forward Leonardo Vonić has joined top-flight Moreirense on loan. Moreirense can buy his contract for 1.2 million euros at the end of the season, while Porto would retain the right to 30% of a future transfer. “I hope I will score many goals here,” Vonić said. Croatian midfielder Andro Babić, who moved from Mostar’s Velež to Academico last month, has not played in the first five league rounds and is awaiting his first minutes in Viseu.
