Croatian flag to break American record on New York's East River

New York City will host a spectacular display of Croatian pride on June 13 as the fan association 'Mi Hrvati' unfurls the largest Croatian flag ever seen in America. The 100-meter-long checkered flag will be displayed along the East River, offering views of the UN and the city skyline.

This event, timed just before the 2026 FIFA World Cup, aims to break the association's own record set in Qatar four years prior. The celebration will include two hours of music, culture, and history, featuring prominent members of the New York Croatian community and a new fan anthem titled "Idemo na vrh" (Let's go to the top).

The organizers highlighted the significance of the event, noting it coincides with America's 250th anniversary and Croatia's 35th year of independence. "There is no better place or time," their statement read, inviting attendees to "Bring a flag. Be part of history."

The program at Anable Basin in Long Island City is designed as a two-hour cultural and entertainment event, complete with aerial filming. Attendees will learn about the role of the Croatian diaspora in New York while enjoying a festive atmosphere fitting for the world's biggest sporting competition.
