Croatian PM Plenković mourns film giant Zrinko Ogresta

Croatian Prime Minister Andrej Plenković has offered his condolences to the family of Zrinko Ogresta, a renowned Croatian director, screenwriter, and professor who passed away. Plenković emphasized that Ogresta's name will forever be etched in the history of Croatian film and culture.

Ljubitelji filmske umjetnosti pamtit će ga po brojnim nagrađivanim filmovima, a svoje je znanje, kao redoviti profesor filmske režije na zagrebačkoj Akademiji dramske umjetnosti te član Europske filmske akademije sa sjedištem u Berlinu, prenosio i mladim naraštajima

"Film art lovers will remember him for his numerous award-winning films," Plenković stated. He added that Ogresta, in his role as a regular professor of film directing at the Academy of Dramatic Art in Zagreb and as a member of the European Film Academy based in Berlin, also passed on his knowledge to younger generations.

The Prime Minister noted that Ogresta's work and the quality of his contributions are evidenced by awards received at both domestic and international film festivals. His films garnered multiple Golden Arenas at the Pula Film Festival and were screened and honored at prestigious festivals worldwide, including Berlin, Venice, Karlovy Vary, London, Montpellier, Haifa, Denver, and Milan. Ogresta was also a recipient of the Vladimir Nazor lifetime achievement award.

"With the untimely passing of Zrinko Ogresta, we have lost an exceptional individual and a giant of Croatian cinema, whose name will forever remain inscribed in the annals of Croatian film art and culture," Plenković wrote. He extended his sincere condolences and deep respect to Ogresta's family on behalf of the government and himself.
