Cruz Azul recognized as Liga MX's best team of the year

Cruz Azul has been honored as the best team of the year in Mexico's Liga MX, following their tenth championship victory. The club received the prestigious award from Liga BBVA MX and Nissan for their outstanding performance across the Apertura 2025 and Clausura 2026 tournaments.

During a ceremony at the Mexican Football Federation headquarters, the champions were presented with the award by Mikel Arriola, commissioner of the FMF. The event was also attended by Rodrigo Centeno, CEO of Nissan Mexico, and key figures from Cruz Azul, including President Víctor Manuel Velázquez, Sporting Director Iván Alonso, and Technical Director Joel Huiqui.

This marks the first time in the award's history that a team has won it consecutively. "Today, we reward consistency, discipline, and sporting performance throughout the football year. We are here again to honor Cruz Azul, which becomes the first team to receive this recognition for the second consecutive year," stated Mikel Arriola. He added, "We are proud to celebrate their dedication, effort, and results."

Over the 2025-2026 football season, Cruz Azul amassed 68 points, with 35 points in the Apertura 2025 and 33 in the Clausura 2026, which they capped with the league title. Club President Víctor Velázquez expressed his pride, noting the team's consistent success. "Since last year when we won this award, I said we were going for the back-to-back championship in this achievement, and it is simply a reflection of the work we have been doing at the club, both on and off the field," Velázquez said. He highlighted that in five years, the club has won numerous titles, including the ninth and tenth championships, Campeón de Campeones, Supercopa, and CONCACAF Champions Cup, attributing these successes to the fans.

In addition to the recognition, Cruz Azul received a one million dollar prize and secured their spot in the next Concacaf Champions Cup.
