Cuipo Community Celebrates Fair to Boost Local Tourism

The community of Cuipo, located in the Ciricito corregimiento of Panama's Colón province, celebrated its inaugural cultural, gastronomic, and artisanal fair on Saturday, July 18. Attendees were treated to folkloric performances and a diverse array of local products and traditional foods.

Community leaders organized the event with the primary goal of positioning Cuipo as a family-friendly tourist destination. Jorge Tono, a community leader and the fair's president, explained that the initiative seeks to attract visitors to experience the region's unique gastronomy and local products. Luis Castillo, the corregimiento representative, welcomed attendees and highlighted the variety of offerings, including artisanal chorizos, fresh fish caught in the lake, and other regional delicacies.

Visitors viewed the fair as a vital opportunity to strengthen the local economy and provide support to entrepreneurs in Colón. Among the exhibitors was Yadira Reyes, who promoted Café Gatún, a coffee product crafted by a cooperative from Costa Abajo using beans cultivated in the province's mountains. The gastronomic selection, featuring items like "bollos," "pesada de nance," natural juices, coffee, and fish, proved popular with families and tourists throughout the event's first iteration.

The fair showcased the rich cultural heritage and culinary traditions of Cuipo, aiming to foster economic growth through tourism and local enterprise. The success of this first event sets a precedent for future initiatives designed to highlight the community's offerings and attract wider recognition.
