Culinary expert Cheng An-chi diagnosed with early-stage breast cancer after self-discovery

Renowned culinary expert Cheng An-chi has shared her personal experience of discovering a breast lump, leading to a timely diagnosis and treatment for Stage 1 cancer. Her candid account aims to serve as a crucial reminder for women to remain vigilant about their health and seek prompt medical attention.

Cheng recounted that while showering on the evening of May 15th, she felt a small, round lump in her right breast, which she described as feeling like a mosquito bite. Recalling a friend's past battle with breast cancer, Cheng immediately scheduled a mammogram and ultrasound. The results indicated a potential issue, prompting further tests.

Following a biopsy that confirmed the presence of cancerous cells, approximately 1 centimeter in size, Cheng consulted with doctors at Shin Kong Hospital. After discussing her options with her family, she decided to proceed with surgery. Initially scheduled for a later date, she requested the earliest possible surgery, leading to her admission on June 10th, surgery on the 11th, and discharge on the 12th.

Fortunately, the early detection and swift action proved highly effective. Doctors informed Cheng that due to the early stage of the cancer and the absence of lymph node metastasis, chemotherapy would likely not be necessary. She expressed relief and gratitude for the support of friends and students during this challenging month, emphasizing the importance of decisive action and a positive outlook when facing health challenges.
