Cultists abducted, murdered Kwara poly student - Police

The Kwara State Police Command has apprehended three individuals suspected of belonging to the Eiye Confraternity, linking them to the abduction and murder of Sodiq Durodola Olaniyi, a 29-year-old student at Kwara State Polytechnic in Ilorin.

A thorough and painstaking investigation conducted by operatives of the Violent Crime Response Unit has unravelled the circumstances surrounding the disappearance of a student of Kwara State Polytechnic, culminating in the arrest of three suspected members of the notorious Eiye Confraternity for their alleged involvement in the abduction and subsequent murder of the victim.

The arrests followed weeks of intensive investigation by the Violent Crime Response Unit, which focused on the student's disappearance. Police Public Relations Officer Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi stated that the investigation successfully uncovered the circumstances surrounding Olaniyi's vanishing.

Acting on credible intelligence and sustained investigation, VCRU operatives on Monday, June 29, 2026, conducted coordinated tactical operations on identified cult hideouts within Ilorin metropolis, leading to the arrest of Adeoye Babatunde Alimi, alias ‘Solar’; Bernard Kayode, alias ‘KK’; and Owoyemi Bashiru, alias ‘GDP’.

Identified as Adeoye Babatunde, 23, known as 'Solar'; Bernard Kayode, 25, alias 'KK'; and Owoyemi Bashiru, 27, alias 'GDP', the suspects were detained on Monday during tactical operations targeting cult hideouts across Ilorin. Preliminary findings suggest they are part of a group responsible for Olaniyi's abduction on June 4, 2026. Olaniyi was an indigene of Oyo State.

Preliminary investigation revealed that the suspects are members of a violent cult group allegedly responsible for the abduction of Sodiq Durodola Olaniyi, an indigene of Oyo State who had been missing since June 4, 2026.

During interrogation, the suspects reportedly confessed to their roles in the crime, admitting that Olaniyi was killed after being abducted. The gang is believed to consist of twelve members, with nine currently at large. Police are intensifying efforts to apprehend the remaining suspects, dismantle the criminal network, and locate the victim's body. The arrested individuals are reportedly providing information on other violent crimes attributed to the group in Ilorin.

During interrogation, the suspects confessed to their respective roles in the crime and disclosed that the victim was executed by members of the cult group after his abduction.
