Curacaví: Four arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol and drugs in Carabineros checks

Four people were arrested in Curacaví after Carabineros conducted vehicle checks targeting drivers under the influence of alcohol or drugs. The operation also resulted in 49 traffic violations for breaches of road regulations.

Carabineros carried out the checks alongside personnel from Chile’s National Service for the Prevention and Rehabilitation of Drug and Alcohol Use, known as Senda. Officers conducted 98 vehicle checks and administered 59 detection tests during the operation.

Of those tests, 49 were breathalyzer tests and seven were drug tests. The figures formed part of a broader enforcement effort in the municipality during the holiday period, with the arrests and traffic violations recorded as a result of the checks.

Lieutenant Francisco Campos, head of the Curacaví Highway Police Post, issued a direct warning to drivers: “As a result of these checks, four people were arrested and 49 traffic violations were recorded for breaches of road regulations. We urge everyone that if they are going to consume alcohol during these holidays, they should hand over their keys, because alcohol and driving are incompatible.”
