Cyclists report dangerous BMW encounter; police say driver maintained safe distance

A group of 26 female cyclists participating in a joint ride near Tallinn described an extremely dangerous situation involving a BMW driver. According to the cyclists, the driver approached their group, overtook them while pulling a trailer, then cut sharply in front of them before braking suddenly.

The incident occurred during a weekly group ride, where safety is the top priority for participants. The group leader, who has been organizing such rides for three summers, noted that their large female cycling group usually elicits positive curiosity rather than alarm from other road users.

However, the police offered a different assessment after reviewing the video footage. They concluded that the driver had taken all necessary measures to ensure a safe lateral distance. The cyclists, baffled by the police's response, questioned why the dangerous proximity of the trailer, the abrupt braking, and the statements from 14 witnesses were disregarded.
