Czech Senators Propose Stricter Gender Change Rules, Including for Sports and Prisons

Czech senators are pushing for stricter regulations on legal gender changes, introducing a new bill that addresses specific concerns for athletes and prisoners. The proposed legislation, spearheaded by Senator Vladimíra Ludková of the Civic Democratic Party (ODS) and supported by colleagues from ODS, TOP 09, and STAN, seeks to establish clear procedural and material safeguards.

This initiative stems from a Constitutional Court decision set to take effect in July 2025. The court's ruling will eliminate the mandatory requirement for surgical intervention to officially change one's gender marker. Ludková argues that without clear legal frameworks and safeguards, the process could become chaotic.
