Dacic: Serbian Police Sonic Devices Are for Warning, Not Weapons

Serbian Internal Affairs Minister Ivica Dacic has asserted that sonic devices recently acquired by the police are strictly for use as a warning system and not as weapons. This statement comes in response to public claims and concerns regarding the nature and intended use of this technology.

Dacic confirmed that the police arsenal includes LRAD (Long Range Acoustic Device) sonic devices. He specifically denied allegations that these devices were employed as weapons during a mass protest that occurred in March 2025. The minister emphasized that the use of such devices, publicly referred to as "sound cannons," is prohibited under Serbian law.

Further elaborating on the department's stance, Dacic stated that he personally banned the use of these devices as potential weapons following technical discussions and media reports. This action underscores the ministry's commitment to adhering to legal regulations and addressing public apprehension.

In a move that could signal a shift in policy or a response to international scrutiny, Minister Dacic also indicated that Serbia is prepared to sell the sonic devices. This offer suggests a potential de-escalation or a desire to divest from equipment that has become a point of contention.
