Daewoo E&C forms task force for Middle East reconstruction, eyes Iran

Daewoo Engineering & Construction is preparing for potential reconstruction projects in the Middle East following a ceasefire agreement, establishing a dedicated task force to navigate the evolving landscape.

The "Middle East Reconstruction Task Force" (TF) will operate under the company's Global Infrastructure Division, integrating overseas development and order-taking functions from its plant, civil engineering, and architecture divisions. The team's initial focus will be on infrastructure repair in war-torn regions, with a long-term objective of assessing opportunities for re-entry into the Iranian market.

Daewoo E&C intends to work closely with government agencies like the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, and the International Contractors Association of Korea. The company also aims to pursue joint ventures with other domestic construction firms, forming a "Team Korea" to enhance competitiveness in the region.

The company anticipates a surge in project tenders for energy pipelines, refinery and petrochemical facilities, and gas processing plants, as well as power, port, housing, and urban development sectors, once reconstruction efforts commence. Daewoo E&C has prior experience in Iran, having completed projects such as the Bandar Abbas-Bafghan railway and the Ahvaz power plant.
