Daewoo E&C's 338.7 Billion Won Gangnam Villa Redevelopment Contract Canceled

Daewoo Engineering & Construction has had its selection as the primary contractor for the Gangnam Wonhyosung Villa redevelopment project revoked. The decision, announced by the project's cooperative (조합), cancels a contract worth approximately 338.7 billion won (US$248 million).

The project, located in the affluent Banpo-dong area of Seoul's Seocho District, aimed to develop a 132-unit residential complex, including underground and above-ground structures, along with ancillary facilities. Daewoo E&C was initially chosen as the contractor in June of the previous year, proposing its high-end brand 'Trana Seorae' for the development.

A representative from Daewoo E&C stated that despite ongoing discussions, the company and the cooperative could not bridge their differences on several key issues. Neither party has disclosed the specific reasons behind the cancellation. The cooperative had reportedly considered increasing the building's height from four to five stories, a proposal that Seoul city officials deferred in May, citing the need for further review.

Following the cancellation, Daewoo Engineering & Construction has indicated its intention to initiate legal proceedings. The company's official filing stated that it plans to pursue legal remedies, including filing lawsuits, to address the situation.
