Damietta Port Handles 16 General Cargo Ships in 24 Hours

Damietta Port received 11 ships and dispatched 15 during the latest 24-hour period, leaving 28 varied vessels at the Egyptian port.

The port’s media center reported 35,215 tons of general-cargo exports, including beet feed, packaged gypsum, urea, sugar, alfalfa and other goods. Imports totaled 49,842 tons, led by corn, scrap metal, iron and miscellaneous cargo.

Container traffic included 2,720 twenty-foot equivalent units of exports, 370 equivalent units of imports and 1,899 transit containers. The public-sector grain silo held 879 tons of wheat, while private-sector warehouses held 31,789 tons. One train carrying 1,111 tons of wheat left for silos in Qalyubia, and trucks recorded 5,157 inbound and outbound movements.

The RORO ship Gallipoli Seaways, operating on the Damietta-Trieste route, also departed after handling 3,629 tons of goods. Its cargo included vegetables, fruit, aluminum cables, textiles, clothing, automotive wiring harnesses, LED switches, connectors and passenger cars. Export shipments were bound for Italy, the Netherlands, Germany, England, Slovenia, Slovakia, Algeria, Hungary, Morocco, France and Austria.
