Dangerous power banks: Check immediately! Ministry of Economic Affairs' 2026 recall list includes 8 brands

Consumers in Taiwan are urged to check their portable power banks immediately, as the Ministry of Economic Affairs has announced a recall for over 87,000 units from eight brands. The recall, scheduled for 2026, targets models with potential safety hazards including battery swelling, defects in battery cells, and abnormal discharge management chips.

The affected brands include acer Gadget, LaPO, PUREGEAR, YOMIX, GUXON, GTCASE, Momax, and MEGA KING. These issues could lead to overheating and even fire risks, prompting the government's intervention to ensure consumer safety. The Ministry's Bureau of Standards, Metrology and Inspection has compiled a list of specific models and their production periods.

For those who own potentially affected power banks, the advice is to cease using the devices immediately. Consumers should contact the respective manufacturers to arrange for replacements, full refunds, or store credits, depending on the brand's specific compensation plan.
