Dangote displaces US again as Europe’s leading JetA1 supplier

For the second month running, Dangote Petroleum Refinery has surpassed the United States as Europe's primary supplier of jet fuel, known as Jet A1. This achievement underscores the refinery's growing influence in the global refined petroleum products market.

Data from the commodities intelligence firm Kpler reveals that over 400,000 tonnes of jet fuel produced by the Dangote refinery were delivered to Europe in July. This volume represented approximately 20 percent of Europe's total jet fuel imports for the month. This follows a record export of 466,000 tonnes to Europe in June, when Nigeria first overtook the United States as the region's top supplier of imported jet fuel.

Europe imported about 2.06 million tonnes of jet fuel in July. Dangote accounted for the largest single share of these imports, ahead of established suppliers from the United States and the Middle East. Industry observers note that the refinery is rapidly altering established fuel trade routes in the Atlantic Basin by providing a competitive option against long-standing suppliers.

The refinery's sustained export performance is a significant milestone, demonstrating its capacity to consistently supply aviation fuel that meets stringent international quality standards to one of the world's most demanding markets. Dangote's strategic location on Nigeria's Atlantic coast, combined with its scale and modern technology, enables it to be an increasingly vital source of aviation fuel for European markets. The refinery's export momentum is supported by steadily increasing production, with jet fuel loadings reaching a record 550,000 tonnes in June and crude deliveries climbing to an all-time high of 660,000 barrels per day.
