Danielle Smith says Tennessee trip sends no wrong message during trade war

Danielle Smith says a personal trip to Tennessee will not send the wrong message during the trade war between Canada and the United States. The Alberta premier says diplomacy requires working with officials of all kinds and reminding them of the importance of the relationship between the two countries.

Smith is scheduled to travel to Nashville later this week. Although the trip is personal, her office says she will take time to meet Tennessee tourism officials and the head of the city’s chamber of commerce. Alberta’s senior representative to the United States, Nathan Cooper, will join those meetings.

Smith says Calgary has spent years trying to establish itself as “Nashville North.” She plans to study Nashville’s approach and develop partnerships with its music industry. Alberta also wants to expand its tourism economy, and Smith says this is a “perfect time” to use Calgary’s existing assets to do so.
