Danish club Györ in new CL final after great drama

The Hungarian handball club Györ, featuring Danish players Kristina Jørgensen, Ida Marie Dahl, Helena Elver, and Sandra Toft, has advanced to the Champions League final following a thrilling semifinal match. Györ secured a narrow 31-30 victory against French side Brest after a dramatic late comeback.

Brest had been on the verge of a significant upset, leading 30-29 in the closing stages. However, Kristina Jørgensen scored the equalizer with just seconds remaining, leveling the score at 30-30. Györ then took the lead 31-30, and Brest was unable to find a final shot to force overtime.

The match was intense from the start, with both teams exchanging leads. Brest initially led 2-0, but Györ quickly responded. The game saw red cards for both teams, with Brest's Onacia Ondono and Györ's Bruna de Paula both receiving dismissals. Györ held a slim 17-16 lead at halftime, but Brest fought back to equalize early in the second half.

Despite facing a two-goal deficit late in the game, with Brest leading 28-26, Györ, with crucial contributions from Elver, managed to equalize again at 28-28. The Hungarian club ultimately displayed composure under pressure to secure their place in the final, where they will face fellow French club Metz. Györ is aiming for their third consecutive Champions League title.
