Danish DR drama "Uniformen" named Best Series at Monte-Carlo festival

The Danish DR drama "Uniformen" (The Uniform) has received international acclaim, winning the award for Best Series at the prestigious Festival de Télévision de Monte-Carlo. The public service broadcaster's head of fiction, Henriette Marienlund, expressed pride and joy, stating that the award is a fantastic recognition of the Danish team's work both in front of and behind the camera.

Marienlund highlighted that the series, with its clear connection to Danish society, has resonated with an international audience. "Uniformen" is set at a police academy, following a group of cadets, their instructors, and the leadership. The crime drama focuses on the academy's new rector and a police student who, during an operation, shoots a young man who later dies from his injuries.

"Uniformen" is created by a strong Danish team in front of and behind the camera, and the award is a fantastic recognition of their work.

The series delves into critical questions surrounding the use of force by police and the adequacy of their training. Soheil Bavi portrays the police student who fires his weapon. He, along with producer Jonas Allen, producer Sofie Bergstein, screenwriter Oscar Giese, and director Jonas Alexander Arnby, attended the festival in Monaco.

Submissions to the Monte-Carlo Television Festival are made by television companies, production companies, distributors, and streaming platforms. A committee then selects the final nominees in each category, comprising industry professionals. The winners are chosen by juries composed of actors, series creators, and producers, with actress Lesley Manville serving as the jury's president for the Best Series category. The festival itself was founded in 1961 by Monaco's then-monarch, Prince Rainier, who was married to Hollywood actress Grace Kelly. DR announced in May that "Uniformen" will be renewed for another season.
