Danish minister seeks stronger EU borders at crisis meeting after Ceuta migrant surge

Danish Immigration and Integration Minister Morten Bødskov is heading to a European crisis meeting focused on strengthening the EU's external borders. The urgent summit was called by Denmark after approximately 60,000 migrants crossed from Morocco into the Spanish enclave of Ceuta last week.

Bødskov intends to use the meeting to push for enhanced EU border control measures. "We need to strengthen the EU's border control. We need to strengthen border control to the countries bordering the EU, and then we need more knowledge about the refugee flows around us," he stated. The minister also emphasized the importance of increased cooperation with neighboring countries to address the root causes of migration.

"Finally, we must strengthen cooperation with the countries around us, so that people do not flee at all, but stay," Bødskov added. The primary goal of the meeting is to devise strategies to prevent future situations where the EU's external borders are breached, ensuring a more stable and controlled approach to migration management.
