Danish Royal Couple to Visit Belgium with Three Ministers, Focus on European Competitiveness

The Danish royal couple, King Frederik and Queen Mary, will embark on a state visit to Belgium from September 8th to 10th, accompanied by a delegation of three ministers. This visit marks the first state visit undertaken by the current Danish government since its formation following the March elections.

The accompanying ministers are Ida Auken, the Minister of Health and Church Affairs; Martin Lidegaard, the Minister of Business and Economic Affairs; and Samira Nawa, the Minister of Climate, Energy, and Supply. While the royal couple has undertaken eight outgoing state visits since King Frederik ascended the throne in 2024, this trip to Belgium will feature ministers from the newly formed coalition government.

Previous state visits often included the former Minister of Defense, Troels Lund Poulsen, and the current and former Minister of Foreign Affairs, Lars Løkke Rasmussen. While some past visits focused heavily on defense cooperation, the agenda for the Belgium visit emphasizes "a strong and competitive Europe." This focus aligns with the broader objectives of the current Danish government.

In parallel with the state visit, approximately 40 Danish companies will participate in a business promotion event in Brussels, the Belgian capital. The overarching themes for this business initiative are energy and life sciences. Life sciences, a broad field encompassing the study of living organisms and related technologies, plays a crucial role in addressing global health and societal challenges. The Danish royal couple is also scheduled to attend parts of this business promotion event during their state visit.
