Dapeng Bay Cycling Event Celebrates World Bicycle Day with Sunset Rides and Local Flavors

Dapeng Bay National Scenic Area in Pingtung, Taiwan, celebrated World Bicycle Day with a "Pengwan Cycling" event, encouraging participants to embrace low-carbon, sustainable tourism.

The evening ride, starting at sunset, allowed 80 participants to avoid the daytime heat and enjoy the "slow travel" charm of Dapeng Bay. Guided by "Brother Tie" and his team, cyclists explored the area's wetland ecosystems and enjoyed local Pingtung delicacies, including squid balls, black fish balls, and grilled buns.

As night fell, the ride continued to the "Cloud Light Island" and "Moon Walkway," offering a unique nocturnal cycling experience. The event emphasized the integration of nature, local culture, and eco-friendly practices.

This cycling event is part of Pingtung County's larger "World Bicycle Day" initiative, featuring 16 different routes for "self-certified" or "guided" rides. Participants can enter prize draws for a chance to win an iPad or iPhone. The Dapeng Bay route certification is available until the end of June, with other routes across Pingtung opening up in the following months.

The initiative aims to promote cycling as a healthy and sustainable mode of travel, allowing visitors to experience Pingtung's diverse landscapes and local flavors while minimizing their environmental impact. The "Pengwan Cycling 3+1 event" runs throughout June, with various challenges and rewards available through the LAVA LINE membership platform.
