Darline Graham advances in race for late brother Lindsey Graham's Senate seat

Darline Graham remains in contention to succeed her late brother, Lindsey Graham, in the U.S. Senate. American media projections indicate she has advanced to the second round of voting to secure the Republican nomination for the South Carolina Senate seat. The upcoming runoff election on August 25 will pit Graham against fellow Republican Ralph Norman. The ultimate victor will then compete against Democrat Annie Andrews in the November midterm elections for the position in Washington D.C.

Graham, 73, was appointed in mid-July to complete her brother's term, which concludes in January. Lindsey Graham, a prominent Republican with close ties to former President Donald Trump, passed away suddenly in July at the age of 71 due to heart problems. Trump had recommended his sister for the Senate seat, despite her lack of prior public office experience. Senators serve six-year terms.
