Daughter laments 'indescribable' absence six months after mother vanished

Six months have passed since Yvonne Whear, 73, disappeared without a trace in northern New South Wales, leaving her daughter, Gillian Hallac, in a state of "indescribable" anguish.

I just can't believe that six months has almost gone by. I haven't been able to sleep; we just can't do anything. It's just indescribable because she's there one day and all of a sudden there's no her, there's no car, there's nothing, there's no answers.

Whear was last seen on the afternoon of February 19, her car captured on CCTV heading towards her farm near Murwillumbah. Evidence suggests she reached her property, as the boots and hat she was wearing were found there. Her phone records indicate she was active shortly before 5 p.m., but she has not been heard from since. Her car also remains missing.

That is my belief as her daughter, based on what I know about the circumstances in which she disappeared. I strongly believe that there are people out there who know more than what they have been saying.

Hallac expressed her belief that her mother was abducted and her vehicle intentionally concealed. "I strongly believe that there are people out there who know more than what they have been saying," she stated. The disappearance has been particularly painful, with Whear missing significant family events, including the birth of her first great-grandchild.

Detective Inspector Paul Fenwick of the NSW Police missing persons registry confirmed that "significant resources," including drones, helicopters, boats, and divers, have been deployed in the search. Police are keeping all possibilities open and have found no evidence suggesting Whear intended to disappear voluntarily. The investigation continues, with police appealing for any information that could help locate Whear and solve the mystery of her disappearance.
