David Beckham receives first soccer star on Hollywood Walk of Fame

David Beckham made history Friday, becoming the first soccer player globally to be honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. The 51-year-old British icon joins a select group of fewer than a dozen athletes recognized by the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce, and stands alone in his sport.

Visibly moved by the tribute, Beckham accepted the star surrounded by his family, including wife Victoria and sons Romeo and Cruz, alongside close friends like Eva Longoria and Tom Cruise. Hundreds of fans gathered to celebrate the occasion. Notably absent was his eldest son, Brooklyn, who has reportedly been estranged from the family.

During the ceremony, Beckham delivered a heartfelt message of thanks to his family, loyal friends, and especially to Los Angeles and the United States. He recalled his initial travels to the country and his move in 2007 to join the LA Galaxy, stating, "Our daughter Harper was born here, and our family was complete. We were very happy in Los Angeles during those six years, and it is still a place we love so much and consider our home."

Reflecting on his journey, the former player, now co-owner of Inter Miami, shared, "I have always been a dreamer, but I could never have imagined that an honor like this could come to a working-class soccer player like me." He expressed pride in building his own team and highlighted Lionel Messi as "the best player in the world." Beckham also noted the significance of the event occurring as the U.S. prepares to host the World Cup, emphasizing how the sport has grown in the country over the past three decades. He lauded the ambition and entertainment value of American sports, expressing admiration for figures like Michael Jordan.
