David Popovici Crowned 'King of Sprint' by L'Equipe After European Championship Double

David Popovici has earned the title "The King of Sprint" from the esteemed French sports newspaper L'Equipe following his dominant performance at the European Aquatics Championships in Paris. The Romanian swimmer clinched gold in the 200m freestyle, adding to his earlier victory in the 100m freestyle, thus achieving a remarkable "double" for the third consecutive European Championship.

Popovici's victory in the 200m freestyle was decisive, with a winning time of 1:44.15. He led the race from the start, fending off challenges to secure his win. Lithuanian swimmer Tomas Navikonis took silver with 1:44.55, and Great Britain's James Guy secured bronze at 1:44.87. Despite his commanding win, Popovici expressed a desire to have swum faster, a sentiment noted by France Télévisions.
