Davido: Nigerian politics is 'evil,' I don't want to be part of it

Nigerian Afrobeats sensation Davido has firmly stated his disinterest in pursuing a political career, despite his family's prominent history in government. The singer, whose real name is David Adeleke, recently took an active role in his uncle Ademola Adeleke's successful re-election campaign for governor in Osun State.

Davido led the youth campaign mobilization team for his uncle, the Accord Party flagbearer. During the election, he also publicly urged officials to use the front camera on the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) when its other camera malfunctioned. He further accused some politicians of attempting to rig the election and cause disruptions.

Following the election, Davido took to social media platform X to express his strong feelings about the political landscape. "I brought no one! No one defended me! I backed my family on my own!! You guys are ruthless and disgusting! Eeewwww!" he posted. He declared, "I have done my job! Nigerian politics is evil, and I don’t want to be a part of it till God help us."

This sentiment is not new for the artist. Previously, he questioned the credibility of Nigeria's electoral process, noting that while his popularity could be an advantage, he would only consider contesting an elective office if Nigeria guaranteed free, fair, and credible elections. He believes he could defeat any opponent in a transparent election with high voter turnout.
