Day trip ends in tragedy: 3 dead, 8 injured in Şanlıurfa highway crash

Three people, including a 16-year-old, died and eight others were injured in a severe traffic accident on the Halfeti-Birecik highway in Turkey's Şanlıurfa province. The collision involved a light commercial vehicle and a passenger car.

The accident occurred on Saturday evening at the 35-kilometer mark of the highway. Reports indicate that the individuals in both vehicles were on their way back from a day trip to the popular tourist areas of Birecik and Halfeti, having traveled from Diyarbakır and Şırnak.

The victims who lost their lives at the scene were identified as Güneş Sezik, 44; Zemzama Sever, 67; and Zeynep Sezik, 16. The injured, including children aged 5, 8, 11, and 24, were transported to various hospitals in the city for treatment.

Emergency services, including health personnel, gendarmerie, firefighters, and police, were dispatched to the scene following the incident. An investigation into the cause of the crash is currently underway.
