Decision to release Marius Borg Høiby appealed, he remains in custody

Marius Borg Høiby, often referred to as Norway's "bonus prince," will continue to be held in custody following an appeal against a court decision that had granted him temporary release. Høiby had petitioned the court to be temporarily freed from detention so he could be near his mother, Crown Princess Mette-Marit, who is reportedly suffering from a serious illness.

Earlier on Monday, Høiby made an emotional plea in court, emphasizing the difficult family situation. "My family's situation is difficult enough as it is. I want to get out and be there for my mother, who is seriously, seriously ill," he stated during the hearing. The court initially seemed to acknowledge his plea by granting the temporary release.

However, the reprieve was short-lived. Shortly after the court's decision was announced, it was appealed. This appeal means that Høiby will remain in pre-trial detention while the legal process unfolds, preventing him from joining his family during this challenging time.
