Defense lawyer charged as prosecutor calls case serious

The allegations emerged Monday at a hearing in the District Court in Glostrup, where the court considered whether the lawyer’s identity should be protected. The judge imposed a reporting ban, meaning neither his name nor other identifying information may be published. The lawyer denies guilt.

Special prosecutor Halit Sert argued against the ban and emphasized the seriousness of the case. “He is harming an ongoing investigation that is subject to visitation controls and a closed-door order,” Sert said. The charges include abuse of office, passing information from a prisoner under visitation restrictions and evidence tampering.

The lawyer was arrested on July 21 and released the following day after spending the night in custody. During questioning, he said he knew the rules governing visits and correspondence for remand prisoners, but believed “ordinary messages” such as greetings could be passed on.

Sert said he used that case “as cover” to make several calls to the man, who was being held in the drug investigation. The lawyer has denied passing on information about that case. The investigation continues, and prosecutors have not decided whether to bring an indictment.
