Defense of Espaillat Siblings Denies Bankruptcy Proceedings

The defense of Antonio and Maribel Espaillat has rejected reports circulating on social media that the siblings entered bankruptcy, restructuring or liquidation proceedings.

In a press statement, their lawyers described the claims as unsupported rumors arising from online activism. “It is untrue that Antonio or Maribel Espaillat have entered any bankruptcy, restructuring or liquidation regime or procedure,” the defense said.

The lawyers also clarified an appeal filed against the seventh provision of Resolution No. 057-2026-SACO-00101. They said the appeal does not seek to remove or reduce the financial guarantee imposed by the court.

Instead, the defense wants the court to authorize a bond for the same amount, issued by an insurance company. The guarantee would cover possible compensation and legal costs that could be awarded in a judicial decision. The lawyers said the appeal challenges only the method used to secure the money, not the amount or its purpose in the proceedings.

The defense said it issued the statement to keep what it called incorrect information from distracting attention from the case, which remains for the competent courts to examine and decide. It also said its actions respect the victims and their families.
