Deinze Feesten implements heat measures for seniors, installs large fans

The city of Deinze is taking exceptional measures to protect seniors from high temperatures during the upcoming Deinze Feesten, as forecasts predict highs around 30 degrees Celsius. Large festival fans will be installed in the Brielpoort venue, and free water will be available to ensure attendees can enjoy the festivities comfortably.

"We want to ensure that everyone can enjoy the Deinze Feesten," said Mayor Rutger De Reu. "That means we have to look at how we can welcome certain target groups, including seniors who are more affected by the heat, in the best possible conditions." The city aims to provide a safe and enjoyable environment for all participants, especially vulnerable groups.

Separately, the traditional musical fireworks display has been canceled due to a provincial ban. Instead, a laser and light show will illuminate the Krommebrug on Wednesday, July 29, at 11 p.m. While some fire effects will be present, no pyrotechnic materials will be ignited. This change aims to provide a visual spectacle while adhering to safety regulations.

The Deinze Feesten officially begin soon, with highlights including an evening market on Friday and performances on the market square over the weekend. Full details are available on the city's website.
