Dele-Bashiru set to work under Gattuso at Lazio

Nigerian midfielder Fisayo Dele-Bashiru is poised to work under a new manager at Lazio, following the club's official confirmation of Gennaro Gattuso as their head coach. The former Italy international's appointment was announced on Tuesday, concluding weeks of speculation after he was seen at Lazio's training center.

Gattuso, 48, reportedly held discussions about transfer plans and preparations for the upcoming season with club president Claudio Lotito and directors on June 3. Although an agreement was rumored to be in place by May 25, the club only made the appointment official this week. Lazio expressed confidence that Gattuso's experience and determination will help achieve the club's sporting goals.

The appointment of Gattuso, who is believed to have signed a two-year contract, replaces Maurizio Sarri. For Dele-Bashiru, this transition could present a renewed chance to establish himself within the squad. His future had been a subject of uncertainty under Sarri, but Gattuso's arrival might offer a fresh start.

Dele-Bashiru played 24 Serie A games last season, scoring one goal. If he remains with Lazio, he would become the second Nigerian player to play under Gattuso in Serie A, following Victor Osimhen's tenure at Napoli. Gattuso returns to club management after a brief stint with the Italian national team, where he resigned in April after failing to secure World Cup qualification.
