Delhi University colleges open their doors to students displaced by Satya Niketan collapse

Delhi University colleges opened their doors to students left anguished and displaced after a postgraduate accommodation building collapsed in Satya Niketan, killing three people.

We have opened the college canteen for students to have food. We have made arrangements for stay of the students at the nearby community centre and gurdwara. We will assess the situation tomorrow.

ARSD College opened its canteen and arranged accommodation at a nearby community centre and gurdwara. Principal Gyantosh Jha said the college would assess the situation the following day. Students also said ARSD and Venkateshwara College had welcomed residents from nearby postgraduate accommodations.

Venkateshwara College announced a holiday because of the collapse, while Maitreyi College said its hostel administration would arrange accommodation for students who needed it. The university said it was deeply saddened and stood ready to support affected students and families while rescuers searched for people still trapped.

College buildings have opened their doors for students. Many students from nearby PGs have shifted to nearby colleges. ARSD, Venkateshwara College, have welcomed students.

The Municipal Corporation of Delhi evacuated tenants from a building housing a girls' postgraduate accommodation next to the collapsed structure and sealed it. Local residents blamed repair work and water accumulation in the basement, but the MCD said it could not verify whether work had been taking place until the debris was cleared.
