Delhi weather LIVE: IMD warns of rain and thunderstorms across NCR as Gurugram floods again

Fresh rain lashed parts of Delhi on Saturday morning, bringing relief from hot and humid conditions but again disrupting traffic across the capital region. The India Meteorological Department forecast generally cloudy skies and moderate rain throughout the day.

Delhi recorded a temperature of 26.4 degrees Celsius at 8:30 a.m. The weather department said light to moderate rain, thunderstorms and lightning were very likely in several areas of Delhi and the National Capital Region over the following two hours.

The alert covered parts of Delhi including Dilshad Garden, Seemapuri, Shahdara, Vivek Vihar, Preet Vihar, Akshardham, Nehru Stadium, Lajpat Nagar, Kalkaji and Tughlakabad. In the NCR, it included Loni Dehat, Hindon Air Force Station, Ghaziabad, Indirapuram, Chhapraula, Noida, Dadri, Greater Noida, Faridabad and Ballabhgarh.

Gurugram was among the areas affected. Water accumulated to as much as two feet on Sheetla Mata Road, Old Delhi-Gurugram Road and stretches linking Sectors 9A, 10 and 17, disrupting traffic and inconveniencing commuters.

The rain followed heavy showers in parts of the capital on Friday afternoon that disrupted flight operations at Indira Gandhi International Airport. The IMD alert was issued at 2:45 p.m. and remained valid until 4:45 p.m. on September 5.
