Delivery driver refuses to remove helmet, leave food at apartment entrance

A delivery driver in Busan, South Korea, refused to remove his helmet and provide personal details to apartment management, ultimately leaving a food order at the building's entrance. The incident, shared on the YouTube channel 'Haeundae Resident,' sparked a debate about the rights and privacy of delivery workers.

The driver was reportedly asked by a building manager to remove his helmet and leave it at the entrance before proceeding with the delivery. When the driver questioned the request, citing a lack of prior notification and privacy concerns, the manager insisted it was a standard procedure. The driver then contacted the customer, explaining the situation and his refusal to comply with the building's policy.

The customer initially suggested the driver either comply or forfeit the delivery fee, but the driver reiterated his stance on privacy, stating he would leave the food at the entrance. He advised the customer to contact the delivery platform directly. The delivery platform later reached out to the driver, acknowledging his perspective and deciding not to deduct the delivery fee.

This incident echoes similar past events, including a case in Seoul where a building requested delivery drivers refrain from wearing helmets. While apartment buildings may request minimal personal information for security, collecting excessive data or failing to disclose the purpose and duration of storage can raise privacy issues.
