Delivery rider swerves to avoid car door, crashes into Porsche in Taiwan

A delivery rider in Zhongli, Taiwan, suffered minor injuries after a collision with a parked Porsche, an accident triggered by a driver's careless car door opening. The incident happened on Shengsheng Road when a 46-year-old woman, identified by her surname Qiu, stopped her car and opened her driver's side door without checking for approaching vehicles.

A 58-year-old delivery rider, surnamed Hong, was traveling in the same direction. To avoid hitting the suddenly opened door, Hong swerved but lost control of his motorcycle. He then crashed into a red Porsche, driven by a 60-year-old woman surnamed Rao, which was stopped at a red light ahead. The collision left a long scratch mark on the Porsche's door.

Fortunately, Hong sustained only minor abrasions and contusions to his leg and received immediate medical attention at the scene. Police conducted alcohol tests on all three individuals involved, which all came back as zero, ruling out drunk driving as a factor. The exact responsibility for the accident is still under investigation.

Lin Ding-tai, captain of the Zhongli Traffic Division, advised drivers to always check their mirrors and turn their heads to confirm the absence of traffic before opening their car doors. He strongly recommended the "two-stage door opening" method to prevent such incidents. Additionally, motorcyclists are advised to slow down and maintain a safe distance from parked vehicles to ensure road safety for everyone.
