Delta Governor Oborevwori Honored for Fiscal Prudence and Procurement Transparency

Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has been honored with an Award of Excellence by the Bureau of Public Procurement (BPP) and the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC). This recognition highlights the administration's commitment to transparent and prudent management of public resources, a critical aspect of effective governance.

The award was presented during a workshop on Public Procurement and Enlightenment for executive council members and top government functionaries. Governor Oborevwori, represented by his Deputy, Sir Monday Onyeme, emphasized the administration's understanding that an efficient procurement system is vital for good governance. He stated that efforts have been made to strengthen institutional frameworks that promote openness, fairness, competition, and value for money in project execution.

Our administration recognises that an efficient procurement system is essential to good governance.

A significant achievement noted is Delta State's expenditure of over ₦654.5 billion on 362 strategic projects in 2025 without incurring new debt. This feat underscores the administration's fiscal discipline, particularly in contrast to many Nigerian states that rely heavily on borrowing. The governor stressed that this expenditure adhered to due process under the Delta State Public Procurement Law, 2020.

The recognition is significant for two key reasons: fiscal discipline and procurement transparency. The ability to finance substantial projects without borrowing demonstrates a deliberate commitment to prudent financial management. Furthermore, the award acknowledges the administration's efforts in procurement transparency, a globally recognized strategy for combating corruption. By adhering to established processes and ensuring value for money, Oborevwori's administration is presented as a model for responsible public resource management.
